Blog Journal #4

The ELA technology standard for kindergarten emphasizes the importance of using digital tools to create writings and to publish those works. The standard specifies different technology tools that can be used for activities like SmartBoard and Promethean. It also mentions using technology like StoryJumper for reading and and digital art applications like Paint. I would say I am familiar with this standard however I definitely think I need more time and practice using those technologies before I feel comfortable and confident within my abilities.

One resource I found from CPALMS was for ELA in a kindergarten class. This specific resource focused on learning the alphabet using the computer. This resource uses an online program called Starfall and allows students to see each letter of the alphabet, both lowercase and uppercase, and to hear the pronunciation of each letter and the sound it makes. I would want to use this resource in my own kindergarten classroom because it allows my students to familiarize themselves with technology while also being able to visually and audibly learn letters of the alphabet along with their pronunciation and sounds.

I think it is important to be a proficient internet searcher as a teacher because as an educator you have the responsibility of helping provide answers and knowledge to your students' inquiries. As a teacher, you may not always know the answer to every question a student may ask you, which is why it is important to be a proficient internet searcher. It is also important as an educator to continue to learn and the internet is probably your biggest resource to do so, which is also why being a proficient internet searcher is so valuable. I think the internet searching skill I will use most moving forward would be the advanced search feature that Google offers. This feature would allow me to save time searching through results that don't answer my question and provide me with the specific information I am looking for.
